The long-awaited merger of Telenor and Ufone is approaching completion. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) informed the Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecom that the agreement, which had been under evaluation for 18 months, is now in its final stages and might be concluded within one to two weeks.

CCP Chairman Kabir Sidhu noted that the procedure took longer because critical papers from PTCL were presented later, making it impossible to resolve the issue in a few months.

During the same discussion, there were queries concerning the government’s timeframe for the 5G spectrum auction.
