The Sindh government has announced a phased initiative to introduce 1,000 electric buses across the province, starting with Karachi, as part of its 2025–26 budget.
According to official sources, the first phase will see 500 electric buses operating in Karachi by the end of this year. The project aims to provide eco-friendly and affordable urban transport while reducing air pollution and reliance on fossil fuels.
To support this transition, the government has also proposed setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at key public locations. These stations will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and sustainability of the electric fleet.

Transport and energy experts have welcomed the announcement, calling it a timely step towards sustainable mobility and improved air quality.
