The Sindh government has announced plans to launch a women only “Pink Taxi” service, aimed at providing safer and more reliable transport options for female commuters. The announcement was made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during a ceremony in Karachi where free Pink Scooters were also handed over to women.

Bilawal said the new initiative builds on earlier steps such as electric buses and the Pink Bus service, making Sindh the first province to roll out multiple transport projects dedicated to women. He stressed that empowering women is central to the province’s progress and that access to safe transport is key for students and working women.
He added that the provincial government is committed to expanding women-focused programs, highlighting that earlier in the week it also launched the Benazir Hari Card scheme to support flood-affected farmers. The Pink Taxi service, he said, will be another step toward removing barriers to women’s mobility and participation in public life.

The initiative has also drawn attention for its potential to create new job opportunities for women, as many of the Pink Taxis are expected to be driven by female drivers. Officials say this will not only ensure safer travel for passengers but also help women gain financial independence and a stronger role in the workforce.
