A resident of Rawalpindi was left stunned after receiving a gas bill of Rs12 million, prompting widespread criticism and raising concerns about billing errors at Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

The incident came to light after Raja Allah Ditta, a resident of Dhamial, visited the local SNGPL office to dispute the unusually high bill. Despite his protest, officials allegedly insisted that the full amount must be paid. The issue gained attention after it was reported by local media.

In a video statement, Allah Ditta said he belongs to a low-income household and had been unable to pay his gas bills for the past four months. The sudden demand for Rs 1.2 crore, he explained, was entirely unrealistic and far beyond his financial capacity.

Following media coverage, an SNGPL spokesperson confirmed that the company had taken notice of the situation and launched an internal investigation. The official added that the enormous figure was likely the result of a clerical or technical error.

The gas utility assured the public that a revised bill would be issued once the probe is completed. The incident has sparked debate over billing transparency and the need for stricter oversight within utility companies.
