Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif has been conferred with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the country’s second-highest civilian award, in recognition of his extraordinary achievements in mountaineering.

At just 23 years old, Shehroze has become the youngest Pakistani — and among the youngest climbers in the world — to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, a feat achieved by fewer than 80 people in history.

Kashif first gained international recognition in May 2021 when he became the youngest Pakistani to climb Mount Everest, followed by his record-breaking ascent of K2 in July 2021, earning him the nickname “The Broad Boy” after his earlier summit of Broad Peak at age 17.

Speaking on receiving the award, Kashif expressed his gratitude to his parents, mentors, and supporters. “Standing atop all 14 peaks, raising my country’s flag, and now receiving the Hilal-e-Imtiaz is beyond my dreams. This was made possible by the Almighty, my parents’ prayers, and the commitment to never give up.”

Over the past four years, Shehroze has climbed Everest, K2, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Nanga Parbat, among others. His journey was also captured in the 2024 documentary Above the Sleeping Giant.

With the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Shehroze Kashif has secured his place not just in the record books but also as one of Pakistan’s most celebrated youth icons.
