At least seven people were shot dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district on Saturday night in what police described as a clash linked to a long-standing personal enmity.

According to an FIR filed by complainant Zahid Noor, who was injured in the attack, the victims were ambushed in Raigi Sheno Khel area while returning from a picnic at Tanda Dam. Six people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at KDA Hospital.

Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Zahidullah confirmed that the shooting stemmed from old enmities. “There were 11 individuals in total. Seven were targeted. The deceased and injured mainly belonged to Tehsil Sadda in Kurram district but had been living in Mohammad Zai village of Kohat due to family enmity,” he said.

Police registered a case under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown assailants and launched an investigation.

Following the incident, relatives of the victims attempted to stage a protest by placing the bodies on Hangu Road. However, the demonstration was called off after local elders intervened and police assured them the attackers would be arrested soon.

The Kohat region has seen repeated violence over family and tribal disputes. Just last month, two people were killed and another injured in Miankhel Bazaar over a murder-related enmity. In June, PPP leader and former provincial minister Malik Amjid Afridi was arrested in Islamabad in connection with the murder of former district nazim Malik Asad.
