The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced on Friday that the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal is due on August 23 at 11:06 a.m.
Experts suggested that the crescent is likely to be visible the following day, August 24, paving the way for the Islamic month to begin from Monday, August 25.
Despite the scientific forecast, the final word on the sighting will come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will meet on August 24 to review testimonies and weather conditions.
Astronomers explained that visibility is expected to be clear in several areas, enhancing the possibility of sighting. Religious circles also pointed out that Rabi-ul-Awwal is a sacred month for Muslims, as it is associated with the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
