LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a landmark initiative to allocate 1,220 residential apartments to industrial workers, with a strong emphasis on transparency and worker welfare. The announcement was made during the 28th meeting of the provincial cabinet, which approved a comprehensive 130-point agenda.

The flats, located in Labour Complexes at Sundar, Kasur, and Taxila, will be distributed free of cost to eligible workers through a transparent balloting process, marking a significant step toward improving the living standards of the province’s industrial workforce.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz firmly rejected a proposal to recover any cost from the workers for these apartments. Instead, she directed relevant authorities to initiate immediate construction of an additional 3,000 flats to accommodate more laborers in need of secure housing.

“This government stands by its workers. Their well-being is not a favor but a right,” she stated.

Other Major Announcements:

  • Minimum Wage Hike: The cabinet approved a minimum monthly wage of Rs40,000 for skilled, semi-skilled, and other categories of workers across 102 employment sectors in Punjab.

  • Rescue 1122 Acknowledgement: In recognition of the courageous services rendered by Rescue 1122 officials during recent flood operations, the chief minister announced a cash reward of Rs50,000 for each team member involved in the emergency response.

These developments reflect a broader policy shift towards labor empowerment and social protection under the current provincial government.
