Punjab Responds To Hike in Motorcycle Registration Fees

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has denied recent social media claims about a hike in registration fees for motorcycles and electric bikes.

Officials clarified that no such proposal is currently under consideration.

A spokesperson for the Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister, Amber Jabeen, confirmed that the department has not suggested any change to the existing fee structure.

She also shared comments from Director General Excise and Taxation, Umar Sher, who dismissed the online reports as speculative and lacking official backing.

Director of Enforcement and Audit, Asim Amin, reiterated that the registration fees remain unchanged: Rs. 1,000 for bikes up to 70cc, Rs. 1,500 for 71cc to 100cc, Rs. 2,000 for 101cc to 125cc, and Rs. 2,500 for 126cc to 150cc.

For bikes above 150cc, the fee is calculated at 2% of the vehicle’s value. He added that electric bikes currently enjoy a 95% concession on both registration and token taxes.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) confirmed that no notification has been issued for a Rs. 1,000 fitness certificate fee or mandatory inspections for motorcycles.

The recent Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 also does not include motorcycles under vehicles needing fitness certification.
