The Punjab government has approved a Rs1.5 billion package to renovate and preserve historic religious sites, including gurdwaras, churches, and temples across the province.
Officials said the funding is aimed at safeguarding the province’s diverse cultural and spiritual heritage while improving facilities for worshippers and visitors. The initiative will cover restoration work on centuries-old structures, structural repairs, and the installation of modern amenities without altering the original architecture.
According to government representatives, the move reflects Punjab’s commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and preserving landmarks that hold significance for different religious communities. They added that the programme would also support tourism by enhancing the appeal of heritage sites for domestic and international visitors.

The plan includes improving accessibility to these locations, upgrading sanitation facilities, and introducing guided tours to educate people about their historical and cultural value. Officials stressed that local communities would be consulted to ensure that restoration work respects religious customs and traditions.
Work under this initiative is expected to begin in the coming months, with priority given to sites in urgent need of conservation. Experts from the archaeology and cultural heritage sectors will be engaged to ensure that the renovations meet international preservation standards.
