The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert for the Taunsa Barrage on the Indus River, as water levels continue to rise rapidly, prompting urgent precautionary measures across the province.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, a moderate flood situation has developed at the Taunsa Barrage, where water discharge has reached 418,000 cusecs, and is expected to increase further.

Minor flooding has also been reported at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages, increasing concerns of widespread impact.

In response to the situation, Rescue 1122 and departments including Irrigation, Health, Agriculture, and Local Government have been instructed to finalize emergency preparedness. Alerts have also been sent to the Forest, Livestock, and Transport departments.

Director General PDMA emphasized the need for full implementation of precautionary measures, as per the directives of Chief Minister Punjab. Officials are directed to maintain real-time public communication and ensure timely alerts to prevent loss of life and property.

Citizens are urged to follow safety protocols, remain vigilant, and contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy monsoon rains from July 15 to August 31, prompting fears of urban flooding in the region.

As a result, a flood emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi, with the district administration establishing seven flood relief camps to provide food, water, medicine, shelter, and safety. Authorities are also monitoring Nullah Lai and seasonal streams around the clock.

These developments underscore the growing impact of monsoon activity across Pakistan, with authorities urging early precautionary steps and community cooperation to mitigate risks.
