Punjab’s Local Government Minister, Zeeshan Rafiq, has assured that preparations for Eid-ul-Azha sanitation are well in place, with a detailed cleanliness strategy already set in motion. Speaking ahead of the festival, he confirmed that the province is committed to maintaining hygiene and public order during the busy sacrificial period.

The minister highlighted that under the “Suthra Punjab” campaign, a wide-reaching network of sanitation workers, vehicles, and equipment has been mobilized across both urban and rural areas. A total of 180 official cattle markets have been arranged, including the Shahpur Kanjran Model Market, which was inaugurated by the Punjab Chief Minister. Officials noted that both cleanliness and security at this model site have met high standards.

To help residents dispose of animal waste responsibly, the government is preparing to distribute around 12 million biodegradable waste bags. These will be available at union councils, special camps, and through the 1139 helpline.

During the three-day Eid operation, nearly 380,000 tons of animal waste are expected to be collected by an estimated 180,000 sanitation workers. More than 36,000 vehicles and 292,000 manual tools such as brooms and handcarts will be deployed for the effort.

Additional clean-up measures include special attention to mosques and graveyards, with over 27,000 mosques scheduled for cleaning. Over 4,000 union council camps and temporary waste stations will be set up across the province.

The government has also designated 1,684 collective sacrifice sites and 816 waste disposal points. To manage odours, large quantities of rosewater (30,563 litres) and phenyl (142,000 units) will be used.

These steps, officials said, demonstrate Punjab’s commitment to cleanliness, health, and timely waste management during Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most demanding times for municipal services.
