In a major push toward eco-friendly urban mobility, the Punjab government has officially launched the registration process for its Electric Taxi (E-Taxi) project, a cornerstone initiative under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Green & Clean Transport vision.

The Transport Department has invited Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), along with their authorized dealers, distributors, and joint ventures, to register electric vehicle (EV) models that meet the specified operational and safety standards required for taxi use.

The goal is to develop an approved list of EVs eligible for financing under the project. Interested parties must submit their applications by 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, to the department’s office at 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore.

To promote adoption, the government is offering a comprehensive financial package, including:

  • Equity payment assistance

  • A bank-financed five-year loan

  • Partial coverage of vehicle registration charges

Participants will be able to choose vehicles from the approved list, with financing available for up to Rs. 6.5 million per vehicle. Any cost beyond this limit will be covered by the buyer.

To address queries and assist stakeholders, a clarification meeting will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the committee room of the Transport Department. The outcomes and FAQs from this session will also be published on the official website: https://transport.punjab.gov.pk

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the provincial government to modernize public transport, reduce carbon emissions, and promote the use of electric vehicles in urban areas.
