The Punjab Transport Department has reduced intercity bus and rail fares by five per cent after the federal government lowered petroleum prices. Officials said the measure is intended to ease the burden of travel costs and ensure passengers are not overcharged.

The Regional Transport Authority instructed all transporters to apply the revised fares without delay and to display updated price lists at terminals. Inspections are being carried out to make sure the new rates are followed.

The reduction comes after diesel prices fell by Rs12.84 per litre late on Friday. In response, bus fares on several major routes have been adjusted. Travellers from Lahore to Sargodha will now save Rs50 with the fare fixed at Rs1,060.

The Lahore–Islamabad route has been reduced to Rs1,950, a cut of Rs100, while Lahore–Peshawar passengers will now pay Rs2,380, down by Rs120. A larger drop was recorded on the Lahore–Rahim Yar Khan route, where fares have been set at Rs2,810 following a Rs140 decrease.

Longer routes also saw reductions. The Lahore–Hyderabad fare has been lowered by Rs300 to Rs5,800. Rail passengers travelling from Lahore to Karachi will now pay Rs6,040, reflecting a Rs320 cut.
