Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a major package of public relief measures, including a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, the launch of a provincial airline, and the distribution of electric taxis. The decisions were finalised during the 26th meeting of the Punjab Cabinet in Lahore, where a comprehensive 101-point agenda focusing on welfare, infrastructure, and environmental reforms was endorsed.

One of the most notable initiatives is a 30% to 40% reduction in electricity tariffs for consumers. This decision, affecting power producers such as Quaid-e-Azam Thermal and Punjab Thermal Power, makes Punjab the first province to voluntarily slash electricity rates, aiming to ease the financial burden on households.

The cabinet also approved the establishment of Air Punjab, a government-backed airline expected to launch by the end of 2025. The airline aims to improve domestic air connectivity and offer cost-effective travel options. In a further push for sustainable transport, 1,100 free electric taxis will be distributed in Lahore, and electric buses will be introduced in nine divisions with charging stations in key cities.

Additional decisions included the closure of all vaping centres across Punjab due to health concerns. Education and healthcare will also see major investment, with Rs40 billion allocated for upgrading government schools and plans to develop Nawaz Sharif Medical City in Lahore, alongside a new medical college in Layyah.
