The government of Punjab has announced that offices across the province will remain closed on Saturday, September 6, in observance of 12th Rabiul Awwal.
The notification stated that the holiday would apply to both government and private organisations, including hospitals’ outpatient departments, administrative bodies, and the Civil Secretariat.
The 12th of Rabiul Awwal is one of the most important dates in the Islamic calendar, celebrated by Muslims as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Known as Mawlid al-Nabawi in Arabic, the occasion is observed in many parts of the world with prayers, sermons, and religious processions.
In Pakistan, the day is marked with great reverence. Cities are decorated with lights, gatherings are held in mosques, and speeches focus on the Prophet’s life and message of peace. Authorities usually deploy additional security to manage crowds and ensure safety during the processions.
By declaring a holiday, the Punjab government has enabled citizens to freely participate in commemorative events without work or office duties interfering.
