The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday criticised the federal government for failing to submit a report on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s health, legal status, and possible repatriation from the United States.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction, questioning why Pakistan’s refusal to assist in Dr. Siddiqui’s U.S. legal proceedings had not been explained in writing. He cautioned that the court could summon the entire federal cabinet if the report was not submitted soon.

The judge further warned that contempt of court proceedings could also be initiated against the Prime Minister and the cabinet. He initially gave the government three days to respond.

However, the Additional Attorney General requested more time, asking for five working days to prepare the report. The court accepted the request and extended the deadline until next week.

During the hearing, a separate petition regarding Dr. Aafia’s sister, Fauzia Siddiqui, seeking a meeting with the Prime Minister was also discussed. Justice Ejaz questioned the relevance of such a meeting, asking what concrete results it would bring.
