The Power Division has instructed electricity distribution companies across Pakistan to take urgent steps to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the holy month of Muharram, particularly amid the forecast of intense heatwaves.
In a directive issued on Sunday, Federal Power Minister Awais Leghari called for special arrangements to maintain electricity during religious gatherings, especially during Majalis and Ashura processions. He urged all DISCOs to inspect their transmission and distribution systems, identify faults, and complete repairs in areas marked as sensitive.
The minister also stressed the need for a high state of readiness on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, directing companies to keep emergency teams on standby and deploy backup systems, including generators and UPS units, at critical locations.

To prevent breakdowns, DISCOs have been told to maintain up-to-date inventories and ensure the availability of transformers and essential equipment in every sub-division. Leghari further instructed companies to establish coordination with local administrations and maintain effective communication channels with the public to address any power-related complaints without delay.
He warned that any negligence during this period would not be tolerated, underlining the importance of uninterrupted electricity supply during religious events.
