Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered urgent evacuations as floods hit Punjab, with rivers Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rising to dangerous levels. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, he directed rescue teams to speed up operations and ensure food, medicine, and shelter for flood victims.
According to officials, more than 174,000 people have already been safely moved to higher ground. No casualties have been reported so far, as early flood warnings helped evacuate residents in time. The worst-hit areas include Narowal, Gundasinghwala, Jaister, and Marala, while flooding is also reported in the Dek Nullah.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning, saying water levels in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers are still rising. Authorities also fear flash floods in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan. Relief camps have been set up across Punjab, and Rescue 1122 teams are on high alert.
In Lahore, the district administration has warned that water in the Ravi River could flood low-lying areas within 48 hours. Residents in vulnerable areas are being told to evacuate immediately.
