The federal government of Pakistan has announced a major green mobility initiative aimed at promoting sustainable transportation and economic empowerment. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while presiding over a high-level meeting, revealed that the government will provide free electric bikes to top-performing students from all educational boards, including the Federal Board.
In addition, electric rickshaws and loaders will be distributed among unemployed individuals across the country. The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported fuel and to bolster environmental conservation efforts.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) can save the country billions of dollars in foreign exchange, while also creating new opportunities in the local manufacturing and maintenance sectors. He stressed the importance of transparency and fairness in the distribution process, directing authorities to prioritize economically disadvantaged individuals. A third-party validation system will be put in place to ensure that the vehicle allocation is free from corruption and favoritism.
The government also plans to build a full-scale ecosystem to support EV manufacturing, maintenance, and public awareness. Shehbaz Sharif urged the Federal Board of Revenue and other concerned departments to formulate a clear roadmap for implementation. The electric mobility support program is expected to mark a significant step toward eco-friendly transportation and inclusive economic uplift in Pakistan.
