The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its crackdown on substandard meat in Murree, targeting several markets in the area. Inspections were carried out in Aliot Bazaar, Expressway, and Mochi Mandi, where meat quality was checked for compliance with health standards.
A PFA spokesperson said 19 beef and mutton shops were inspected during the operation. Four shop owners were fined a total of Rs 54,000 for selling meat deemed unfit for human consumption.
Officials confirmed that about four maunds of low-quality meat were seized and destroyed on the spot. The meat was examined by an on-site veterinary doctor, who determined that it did not meet safety requirements.
In addition to fines, cases were registered against the shopkeepers found guilty of violating food safety regulations. The PFA stated that such inspections aim to ensure that consumers are protected from health risks associated with contaminated meat.
