ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has announced a fare increase for all passenger, express, and mail trains, effective from July 4, 2025.
According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, fares for express and passenger trains will be increased by 2%, with the hike applying to both current and advance bookings. The move comes as the country faces a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products, particularly diesel, which directly impacts operational costs.

The Ministry of Finance earlier this week raised petrol prices by Rs8.36 and diesel by Rs10.39 per litre, bringing the new rates to Rs266.79 and Rs272.98 per litre respectively.
Pakistan Railways officials stated that the department had been suffering a monthly loss of nearly Rs109 million due to soaring diesel costs. The fare hike aims to mitigate these operational deficits and maintain uninterrupted services.
In addition to the latest revision, it is worth noting that on June 18, Pakistan Railways had already raised passenger train fares by 3% and freight train fares by 4%.
Directives regarding the fare update have been issued to the Director of IT and Divisional Superintendents (DS) to ensure timely implementation of the revised fares across the network.
