Pakistan has launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a reinvigorated and re-energized national counter-terrorism campaign aimed at eradicating extremism and terrorism from the country. The decision was taken with the consensus of all stakeholders, including all provinces, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, during a meeting of the Apex Committee on National Action Plan in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting, which reviewed the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign and assessed the internal security situation. The Prime Minister emphasized that the armed forces are not solely responsible for fighting terrorism and that all federal and provincial governments, as well as all institutions, must play their part.

Shehbaz Sharif assured that the necessary equipment and resources would be provided to the security forces in their fight against terrorism. The campaign will be complemented by socioeconomic measures aimed at addressing the genuine concerns of the people and creating an environment that discourages extremist tendencies.

The meeting also reviewed measures to ensure foolproof security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan. Following the Prime Minister’s approval, new standard operating procedures were issued to relevant departments, enhancing mechanisms for providing comprehensive security to Chinese nationals.

Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a significant step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism. The campaign is expected to be a joint effort involving all stakeholders, with the armed forces, federal and provincial governments, and all institutions working together to eradicate extremism and terrorism from the country.

The Prime Minister’s commitment to providing necessary resources and support to the security forces is crucial in ensuring the success of the operation. Additionally, the socioeconomic measures aimed at addressing the concerns of the people will help in creating an environment that discourages extremist tendencies.

Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate extremism and terrorism is evident in the launch of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam. The country is determined to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and to create a stable environment for economic growth and development.
