A heavy spell of rain, along with thunder and lightning, swept across Karachi on Thursday night, providing a welcome break from the persistent heat. However, the weather change also led to extensive power outages, highlighting the fragility of the city’s electricity system.
Multiple neighborhoods, including Surjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, II Chundrigar Road, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and Gadap, were drenched by the intense rainfall. Other areas such as Clifton, Defence, Scheme 33, North Nazimabad, Safoora, Korangi, Landhi, and Saadi Town also experienced steady showers, turning the night cooler and more comfortable.

Despite the relief, the rain caused major technical setbacks. More than 300 power feeders reportedly tripped, leaving large parts of the city in the dark. Areas such as Gulshan-e-Maymar, Nizamabad, and Surjani Town faced immediate outages, while supply interruptions also affected Jamshed Town, New Karachi, Maripur, Lyari, Kemari, Hawksbay, and Quaidabad.
Residents in PIB Colony, PECHS, and Korangi complained of power disruptions, believed to be due to feeder faults.
Many expressed disappointment over the repeated failures of the electricity supply system, especially during weather events. Some neighborhoods remained without electricity for several hours after the rain had passed.
