In a major move to improve road safety and reduce environmental pollution, the Punjab government has made it compulsory for all motorcycles to carry a valid fitness certificate.

According to a recent legal amendment, motorcycle owners will now be required to submit their vehicles for annual fitness tests. Once approved, a certificate will be issued, valid for one year.

Officials stated that this new rule is aimed at preventing road accidents linked to poorly maintained motorcycles and at lowering harmful emissions that contribute to air pollution.

Authorities have warned that motorcycles without valid fitness certificates will not be allowed on public roads, and strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply.

The Punjab Transport Department has encouraged citizens to get their vehicles tested regularly, stating that the initiative supports safer, cleaner, and more responsible transport across the province.

As part of the wider effort, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is currently offering free emission tests for all vehicles. Vehicles that pass these tests receive a green sticker, valid for one year, to be displayed on the windscreen.

The combined efforts of the Transport Department and EPA reflect Punjab’s broader strategy to enforce better transport standards and promote eco-friendly practices.
