Karachi’s cleanliness operations during Eid ul Adha may face serious disruption after the Dumper Truck Transport Owners Association announced it would not participate in the collection of animal offal this year. The group cited repeated attacks on its vehicles and a lack of support from authorities as the reasons behind its decision.
In a video message released on Wednesday, Association President Liaqat Mehsood explained that nearly two dozen dumper trucks had been torched by unidentified individuals in recent months. He added that despite submitting formal complaints to the Karachi commissioner and other relevant departments, no compensation or action had been taken.
Mehsood strongly criticized the Sindh government and municipal bodies, saying they had failed to protect the livelihoods of dumper truck operators and had shown no interest in addressing their grievances. The association views the decision as a protest against what it calls systemic negligence and injustice.

The move comes as tensions remain high in Karachi following multiple road accidents involving dumpers and tankers. In several instances, mobs responded violently by setting vehicles on fire, leaving drivers and owners facing both financial losses and physical threats.
The refusal to collect animal waste during Eid, a time when cities generate large volumes of offal, could create serious sanitation challenges. Karachi officials have yet to announce backup plans to manage the expected surge in waste.
