As temperatures continue to soar across Pakistan, the National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has released a safety advisory for motorists, urging them to take precautions while travelling during the ongoing heatwave.
According to NHMP spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, vehicle owners should check water and coolant levels before setting off, especially in the peak of summer. He also stressed the importance of monitoring engine temperature and tire pressure throughout the journey.

In addition, the public has been advised not to leave items like mobile phones, lighters, or perfumes inside parked vehicles, as they pose a risk of ignition in extreme heat. To reduce exposure to high temperatures, citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The NHMP warned against leaving children, elderly passengers, or pets unattended in parked vehicles, even for short durations. Travelers are encouraged to carry extra drinking water, a first aid kit, and to always park in shaded areas when possible.

Ahmed also recommended keeping car windows slightly open while parked to allow ventilation. Standard road safety rules remain critical, including the use of seat belts, maintaining speed limits, and keeping a safe distance between vehicles.
The advisory comes as the country battles record-high temperatures, with health and safety authorities warning of potential heatstroke risks.
