The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a significant policy reform by offering up to 10 years of age relaxation for candidates applying to public sector jobs, aiming to make the recruitment process more inclusive and flexible.
According to an official notification from the Chief Secretary’s Office, the policy applies broadly to various government roles. Candidates applying for Grade 17 and above, as well as those targeting Secretariat positions of Grade 16 and below, will now benefit from an extended upper age limit of up to 10 years.
For non-Secretariat posts, the authority to grant age relaxation has been delegated to relevant administrative secretaries and departmental heads. This move is intended to simplify the recruitment process by allowing departments greater flexibility in accommodating eligible applicants.

The government’s decision is seen as a response to growing concerns over limited job opportunities for older candidates who may have missed earlier chances due to various socio-economic challenges.
In a further show of support, the policy includes special provisions for the families of government employees who lost their lives in terrorist attacks. Widows and children of these public servants will receive additional benefits, reaffirming the province’s commitment to honouring its national heroes.
The policy coincides with recent amendments to the Civil Servants Rules 2008, reflecting a broader push by the KP government to modernise hiring standards and widen access to government employment.
