A recent Gallup Pakistan survey has revealed that nearly half of the population supports the idea of enhancing trade ties with India as a step toward normalising relations following the ceasefire agreement.

The survey, conducted between May 12 and 18 across various regions of Pakistan, sought public opinion on steps that could improve ties between the two neighbours. According to the findings, 48% of respondents favoured increasing trade with India, while 35% opposed the idea, arguing that unresolved issues should be addressed first.

Similarly, 44% showed interest in educational exchanges with India, while 36% disagreed. Cultural ties also received mixed reactions—40% were in favour, and 35% were not.

The survey also touched on historical perspectives. A significant 86% of Pakistanis said they would have supported the separation from India in 1947. Only 3% stated they would have opposed it, while 7% remained undecided and 4% chose not to respond.

Analysts believe the findings reflect a growing public appetite for peace and engagement, though concerns about core disputes remain a significant barrier to progress.
