ISLAMABAD: The nation is observing Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) today to commemorate Pakistan’s successful military response to Indian aggression during Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.

  • Flag Hoisting Across Provinces
  • Tributes to Martyrs

The day began with special prayers and Quranic recitations across the country, along with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all four provincial capitals, symbolizing national pride and unity.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi, attended by Corps Commander Lt Gen Awais Dastagir, who offered Fateha and paid homage to the founder of the nation.

In Lahore, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider led a similar ceremony at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, laying floral wreaths and offering Fateha.

Flag Hoisting Across Provinces

Provincial leaders took part in flag-hoisting ceremonies to mark the occasion:

  • Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, while raising the national flag at the Sindh Secretariat, lauded the armed forces for their “brave and fitting response to Indian aggression,” adding, “The nation stands united like a wall.”

  • In Peshawar, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi recalled the sacrifices made by innocent civilians and stated that India “mistook our silence for weakness.” He declared that Pakistan’s response demonstrated its unwavering resolve to protect national sovereignty.

Across Azad Jammu & Kashmir, institutions and citizens alike observed the day with patriotic fervor, holding ceremonies in educational institutions to honor the Pakistan Armed Forces.

Tributes to Martyrs

Floral tributes and salutes were also paid at the mausoleum of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed and the memorial of Capt Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed in Gujar Khan, where military personnel honored the fallen heroes.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, expressed profound gratitude:

“This is not just a victory for our Armed Forces, but for the entire Pakistani nation. On the night of May 6-7, India attacked and innocent lives were lost. But within hours, we responded with unmatched strength.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute, stating:

“India’s pride—its fighter jets—now lie in ashes. Our Falcons delivered a decisive blow. This was a crushing response, and a golden chapter in our military history. The entire nation thanks General Asim Munir and our armed forces.”
