The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that it will soon roll out facial recognition technology to support elderly citizens facing difficulties with fingerprint verification.
NADRA spokesperson Shibahat Ali said the initiative will make biometric verification simpler for senior citizens who struggle due to age-related changes in fingerprints. He stressed that the authority remains committed to ensuring smooth access to services for all citizens, especially vulnerable groups.
The spokesperson also highlighted the importance of timely registration of newborns, calling it a fundamental right of every child. NADRA issues a Juvenile Card for those under 18, valid until they reach adulthood. A parent’s CNIC is required for registration, though in cases where one parent is unavailable, the other’s ID is sufficient.

He added that NADRA currently operates 359 counters across Karachi, with plans to expand facilities further to meet rising demand. In cases of divorce, citizens are required to present a certificate from the Union Council to update official records.
This step comes alongside NADRA’s broader digital upgrades, including the recent expansion of Succession Certificate services to all centers nationwide. Previously limited to select branches, the service now enables families to process inheritance matters closer to home, reducing travel and delays.
