The government of Sindh has declared that entry to all museums and historical sites in the province will be free from August 1 to 14 as part of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. The decision is part of a larger effort to reconnect citizens with their cultural roots.
The campaign was announced by the Department of Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives and is aligned with this year’s national theme, “Marka-e-Haq,” a tribute to the country’s resilience during Operation Banyanum Marsoos.
Key museums included in the initiative are Quaid-i-Azam House, Mohenjo Daro, Sindh Provincial Museum in Hyderabad, Banbhore Museum, and Kot Diji Museum. Other cultural locations such as Mukhi House, Marvi Cultural Centre, and Bhit Shah Cultural Centre will also be open without charge.
Heritage landmarks such as the Shah Jahan Mosque and forts like Umarkot and Naukot will be free to visit. The government has also introduced a 50% discount on official books and publications.

To enhance the celebratory mood, musical concerts featuring top Pakistani artists are scheduled in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur. Historical buildings will be illuminated and adorned with the national flag.
Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah chaired the meeting where the campaign was approved. Senior officials, including Abdul Fateh Sheikh and Fayyaz Shah, were in attendance.
Earlier this year, Sindh’s Chief Secretary had underlined the importance of tourism in the province and pushed for more initiatives to develop destinations like Keenjher Lake and Gorakh Hill.
