Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced several major education reforms, including the province’s first-ever school transport service for public institutions and the launch of mobile Montessori schools under the ‘On-Wheel Montessori Schools’ initiative.

The announcements were made during a review meeting of the School Education Department, where the Chief Minister also introduced new recognition programmes — the ‘School of the Month’ and ‘Teacher of the Month’ awards — aimed at motivating staff and institutions.

She instructed officials to begin work on the mobile Montessori project immediately and ordered an expansion of the Nawaz Sharif Centers of Excellence, increasing capacity from 240 to 1,500 students.

Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted the success of the public-private partnership model, reporting a 99% rise in enrolment and a 114% increase in teaching staff at outsourced schools. The initiative has created jobs for over 60,000 educated youth and brought 1.3 million new students into the system in just 16 months.

Infrastructure upgrades included the renovation of over 5,000 classrooms, roof repairs, and solarisation of more than 50 schools. The ‘School Meal Program’ will now extend to six additional districts, with milk, energy bars, and biscuits added to the menu.

Plans are also underway for 10,000 early childhood classrooms, 6,000 STEM labs, and improved sanitation in girls’ schools. Meanwhile, digital literacy programmes and an English proficiency initiative aim to train thousands to meet global standards.
