Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major initiative to provide free livestock to poor and widowed rural women across South Punjab in an effort to promote economic self-sufficiency and reduce poverty.

In her official statement, Maryam Nawaz said the initiative aims to empower women in villages by offering them a sustainable source of income. “We have made arrangements to provide a better livelihood for women living in rural areas of South Punjab,” she stated. “Under this scheme, deserving widowed and divorced women will be given cows and buffaloes.”

According to the Chief Minister, a total of 11,000 rural women from 12 districts of South Punjab will benefit from this program. In the first phase, 4,870 livestock animals will be distributed.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that divorced or widowed women under the age of 55 can also apply through a dedicated mobile app.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bridging the gap between urban and rural poverty. “Our mission is to eliminate the economic disparity between cities and villages. Economic development is the right of every daughter living in the countryside,” she said.

She further stressed that education, healthcare, and employment are the basic rights of every woman, whether she lives in a city or a village. “We are committed to providing equal economic opportunities to women across Punjab.”
