Security forces have killed 11 suspected terrorists and wounded seven others in a targeted intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan’s Sararogha area, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation focused on militants allegedly backed by India who were attempting to disrupt peace in Pakistan. The military said the action was based on credible intelligence and involved a heavy exchange of fire.

Two Pakistani soldiers lost their lives during the operation. Major Syed Moeez Abbas Shah, 37, from Chakwal, and Lance Naik Jibranullah, 27, from Bannu, were martyred while fighting bravely on the frontline.

Major Moeez had served the Pakistan Army for 14 years and had earned a reputation for his leadership in counter-terrorism efforts. He is remembered for his role during the 2019 Pakistan-India air conflict, where captured Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman had surrendered in front of him.

Lance Naik Jibranullah, a soldier for eight years, was also recognised for his bravery and dedication. Both leave behind grieving families — Major Moeez is survived by his wife and two sons, while Jibranullah leaves behind a wife and three sons.

The ISPR emphasised that such sacrifices reinforce the country’s determination to eliminate terrorism. National leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, calling them heroes of the nation and pledging continued efforts to restore peace.
