While sugar supply in Lahore is showing signs of recovery, prices remain well above the official rate in many parts of the city, according to the district administration’s update on Friday.

The government has set the retail price at Rs173 per kilogram, which is mostly being observed in large wholesale markets. Yet, in residential localities and smaller outlets, sugar continues to be sold for Rs190 to Rs200 per kilogram.

Since July 25, over 1,900 tonnes of sugar have reached Lahore, and another 1,700 tonnes are scheduled to arrive soon, officials confirmed.

The Punjab government has intensified its campaign against overpricing. More than 30,000 operations have been conducted across the province, resulting in 2,092 arrests and 361 FIRs against traders accused of profiteering and breaching price control regulations.

Authorities say the drive will continue until market prices align with the official rates.
