Observed annually on May 1, Labour Day commemorates the contributions of workers across sectors — from construction and farming to domestic and industrial labor. Across Pakistan, the day is marked by public rallies, union-led events, and statements from officials reaffirming support for labor rights.
While the country’s workforce remains the backbone of its economy, concerns around wage security, workplace safety, and social protections continue to be raised by labor organizations. Many workers in the informal sector still operate without contracts, insurance, or legal safeguards.
This year’s observance comes amid ongoing discussions around labor reform and social protection frameworks, as well as renewed efforts by civil society to spotlight the everyday realities faced by workers nationwide.
