The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to equalise the salaries of its police personnel with those serving in Punjab, a significant policy shift aimed at boosting morale and improving performance within the force.

According to officials familiar with the development, the salary revision will be part of the upcoming provincial budget. The new pay structure will apply to police officers from Grade 1 to Grade 16, ensuring they receive the same compensation as their Punjab counterparts. For higher-ranking officers, from Grade 17 onwards, the government plans to enhance their special allowances rather than base salaries.

In addition, the budget includes a proposed allocation of Rs 16 billion specifically for strengthening police services in the tribal districts. This funding is expected to improve operational capacity and upgrade resources in some of the province’s most sensitive and security-challenged areas.

KP Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely and much-needed measure. He noted that KP police have long served on the frontlines in the fight against terrorism, and this pay parity would not only recognise their sacrifices but also motivate the force further.
