The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved construction of two twin tunnels through Margalla Hills, significantly cutting travel distance between Haripur and Islamabad.
Officials confirmed that the tunnels will reduce the commute to just eight kilometres, allowing passengers to complete their journey within ten to fifteen minutes.
The transport link will directly connect Hazara Motorway with Islamabad’s D-12 sector, offering a modern, safer, and more efficient route for daily commuters.
Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and finish by December 2028 under a public-private partnership model incorporated in the ADP.

This transformative project is expected to revolutionize connectivity, reduce travel time from over an hour to minutes, and unlock new economic opportunities across the region.
