The 26th martyrdom anniversary of Kargil War hero Havaldar Lalak Jan Nishan-e-Haider is being solemnly observed today (Monday) across Pakistan, in remembrance of his supreme sacrifice for the motherland during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan have paid glowing tribute to Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, honouring his unmatched bravery, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice.

On this day in 1999, Havaldar Lalak Jan, despite being critically injured, continued to hold his post and repel multiple enemy attacks with exceptional courage. He refused evacuation and continued to fight until he embraced martyrdom, defending the nation with unwavering resolve.
The ISPR noted that his story of selfless service and fearless resistance remains a source of inspiration for both present and future generations of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
Havaldar Lalak Jan was posthumously awarded Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military honour, for his valor and heroism during the Kargil War. His legacy is deeply etched in the history of Pakistan’s military achievements and serves as a powerful reminder of the spirit of sacrifice.
