Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is expected to be engaged soon in Lahore, according to sources familiar with the matter. The prospective bride is the granddaughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s first cousin, making the arrangement a close family affair.

Insiders revealed to Geo News that Junaid’s engagement has been agreed with the daughter of Usman Javed, the 48-year-old son of Nawaz Sharif’s cousin, Javed Shafi. The match was reportedly confirmed during a family gathering held at Nawaz Sharif’s Model Town residence earlier this week. Senior family members, including Nawaz, Maryam, and Javed Shafi, attended the meeting, during which the formal discussions took place.

One source confirmed that both families have agreed to the proposal, and plans for the engagement and nikah ceremonies will be finalised jointly in the coming days.

This marks Junaid Safdar’s second marriage. His first was to Ayesha Saif, daughter of a Qatar-based businessman, Saifur Rehman Khan. That wedding took place in London in 2021 during Nawaz Sharif’s exile. The marriage ended amicably in October 2023.

Junaid returned to Pakistan shortly after the divorce to assist his mother in her political duties.

An accomplished academic, he holds degrees from top UK institutions, including Cambridge, Durham, LSE, and UCL. Alongside his studies, Junaid has also made a name for himself in polo, representing several British universities in competitive matches.
