A judicial magistrate in Quetta has ordered the exhumation of a woman’s grave in connection with an alleged honour killing in Balochistan. The decision follows a police request and will be carried out under the magistrate’s supervision to ensure a transparent investigation, according to ARY News.

The case gained national attention after a disturbing video surfaced online, reportedly filmed during Eid al-Adha, showing the brutal killing of a man and woman by armed men. The Balochistan government quickly responded, registering a state-led case.

Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, said that those seen in the video were identified through NADRA records. Although their identities have been confirmed, authorities have not yet released their names.

In the latest development, 11 suspects have been arrested, including Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, the chief of the Satakzai tribe, following a raid on the Satakzai House. The arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown on gender-based violence in the region.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests via social media platform X, adding that operations are ongoing and that the state supports the victims. He assured the public that all those responsible would be held accountable.

According to the Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO), 32 honour killings have been reported in Balochistan in 2024, with only one case resulting in a conviction, highlighting the widespread impunity surrounding such crimes.
