the federal government has ended the ban on new gas connections, allowing domestic consumers to access pipelines after an eight-year hiatus.

The restriction, first imposed in 2017 to conserve limited domestic gas resources, has now been lifted with the approval of connections using imported gas. The government has instructed SNGPL and SSGC to immediately begin issuing new connections.

According to officials, 3.2 million pending applications will be processed under the new arrangement. The development is expected to provide much-needed energy access to families nationwide.

The new connection structure requires a Rs20,000 security deposit and fees of Rs21,000 for houses up to 10 marlas and Rs23,000 for larger plots.

Applicants are required to submit completed forms along with CNIC copies, property documents, and a neighbor’s gas bill for validation. Areas without pipeline infrastructure will be subject to network extension requests.
