Punjab’s disaster management authority has warned of potential flooding in major rivers following heavy rains. A high flood alert has been declared for the River Tawi and a warning for the River Chenab.
The PDMA spokesperson stated that rising flows in Chenab could create a flood situation at Marala headworks, threatening nearby districts, including Gujrat and Sialkot. Tributaries and smaller nullahs in the region are also at risk of overflow.
Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has instructed all relevant officials to stay on high alert. Local governments and departments linked to agriculture, irrigation, health, livestock, and transport have been asked to take precautionary steps and prepare emergency measures.
Authorities say rescue teams and resources are being mobilized to handle any untoward situation. Residents living near low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious.
