During the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in 2025, more than 1.1 million sacrificial animals were sold across 292 livestock markets in Punjab, as per data released by the Punjab Local Government Department. The report covers all nine administrative divisions of the province, reflecting a strong surge in Eid-related economic activity.
In total, over 1.5 million animals were brought to the markets, showing a significant supply to meet the high demand for sacrificial animals.
Lahore Leads in Animal Sales
Lahore Division reported the highest volume of sales, with 665,000 animals sold during Eid. This includes approximately 443,000 small animals such as goats and sheep, and 222,000 large animals including cows and bulls.

Division-Wise Breakdown of Sales

Faisalabad: Out of 112,000 animals brought to the markets, 88,000 were sold.

Bahawalpur: Over 100,000 animals were sold, showing vibrant trade activity.

DG Khan: A total of 68,000 animals were sold, including 38,000 small and 30,000 large animals.

Rawalpindi: 84,000 animals were brought to markets, of which 46,000 were sold.

Sahiwal: Reported sales of 47,000 animals.

Sargodha: Impressive sales figures with 94,000 animals sold.

Gujranwala: Modest trade with around 10,000 animals sold.

Officials from the Local Government Department stated that the smooth functioning of markets this year was a result of better facilities, enhanced hygiene, and strict regulatory oversight. This led to an overall improved buying experience for citizens and encouraged higher sales volumes.
