Punjab’s disaster management system has been placed on high alert as heavy rains raise fears of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable districts.

Reports suggest Upper Punjab could see extreme downpours, while low-lying areas face potential flooding. In response, Smart Safe City centers are coordinating real-time monitoring operations across the province.

Virtual patrolling teams, supported by artificial intelligence tools, are keeping close watch on Murree, Rawalpindi, and other sensitive regions. Officials explained that AI is helping authorities quickly identify high-risk zones and direct resources before situations escalate.

Streams and waterways in Rawalpindi, including Nullah Lai, are under continuous surveillance. More than 600 high-tech cameras installed under the Safe City project are relaying live images, which are being shared instantly with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). This network is expected to improve the speed and accuracy of emergency response.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain indoors when possible and to follow official advisories. Warnings include staying away from rivers, flood channels, and electricity poles during the spell of severe weather.

The Safe City Authority assured that every possible measure is being taken, using both human teams and modern technology, to protect residents from the hazards posed by the heavy rains.
