Punjab is set to launch Pakistan’s first electric taxi service, with the provincial government finalizing the financing structure for the project. In the initial phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be rolled out in Lahore.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the scheme under which banks will provide loans of up to Rs6.5 million for electric vehicles. The government will bear the interest cost, while buyers will make a subsidized down payment. For vehicles priced between Rs4 million and Rs10 million, the Punjab government will contribute Rs585,000 toward the down payment, with the remaining cost financed through banks.
