British-Pakistani Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam has donated his entire life savings to rebuild the educational infrastructure in Azad Kashmir—an area still reeling from the devastation caused by the 2005 earthquake.
A native of Mirpur, Aslam spent nearly five decades working in the United Kingdom, where he built a modest yet stable life, owning five properties. Upon visiting his homeland in 2023, he was deeply moved by the condition of children studying in makeshift open-air classrooms, a grim reminder of the thousands of schools destroyed in the 2005 quake.

Determined to make a difference, Aslam returned to the UK and made the life-altering decision to sell all five of his properties. The entire proceeds—amounting to crores of rupees—were donated to rebuild schools in some of the most affected areas of Azad Kashmir.
In collaboration with Muslim Charity, a UK-based humanitarian organization, Aslam personally oversaw the construction of 35 modern schools across the districts of Bagh, Haveli, Pallandri, Rawalakot, and Muzaffarabad. These schools are fully equipped with classrooms, furniture, and essential facilities, providing thousands of children with access to quality education in a safe and dignified environment.

His efforts have filled a longstanding void left by insufficient governmental support, particularly in regions where over 2,400 schools were destroyed during the 2005 earthquake. Local communities and educational stakeholders have praised Aslam’s initiative as a “historic act of individual humanitarianism.”
Chaudhary Aslam’s unwavering commitment demonstrates the profound impact a single individual can have on a community. His legacy now lives on through the education and empowerment of a new generation in Azad Kashmir—children who, for the first time in years, can dream of a better future.
