In Punjab, heavy rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and other districts, raising the danger of urban flooding. Water levels in major rivers like Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej are rising quickly. Officials fear the Chenab may cross 800,000 cusecs at Trimmu Barrage by August 31, threatening Jhang and nearby areas.
Evacuations have already been ordered in parts of Hafizabad, Chiniot, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Panjnad.
Sindh and Balochistan are also at risk. Karachi and Hyderabad may see urban flooding while Gwadar, Kech, and Khuzdar in Balochistan face danger in low-lying areas.
Punjab Disaster Management Authority chief Irfan Ali Kathia said this is the highest flood in 40 years. Seventeen people have died and more than 1,600 villages are already underwater. The Pakistan Army has been deployed in several districts for rescue and relief operations.
