Speaking at the launch event, attended by federal ministers, parliamentarians, and energy sector officials, the Prime Minister hailed the app as a “revolutionary reform” that places control in the hands of the consumer and reflects the government’s broader reform agenda.

PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to its solarization boom, describing it as the “most inexpensive way of producing electricity globally.” He assured that the government would not obstruct this positive trend, despite challenges posed by lower electricity consumption from the national grid due to increasing solar adoption.

The premier highlighted a series of reforms initiated over the past year in the DISCOs (Distribution Companies), including merit-based board appointments and a crackdown on corrupt practices. He acknowledged the work of the Ministry of Energy and its leadership in delivering results.

He revealed that:

  • Power tariffs were successfully reduced to Rs7.41 per unit for households after tough negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

  • The government also engaged with banks to address circular debt, calling it a major achievement.

  • A task force was formed to further reduce electricity prices and ensure transparency in power billing.

PTV Fee Abolished

In a major relief to citizens, the Prime Minister announced the removal of the PTV license fee from monthly electricity bills, a long-standing demand from consumers.

Challenges Acknowledged

While celebrating progress, PM Shehbaz also acknowledged two significant challenges:

  1. Power theft, estimated at Rs500 billion annually.

  2. A growing mismatch between production and consumption, due to the rise of solar energy users who now rely less on grid power.

He assured the nation that these challenges are being addressed strategically to ensure affordable, efficient, and sustainable electricity for all.
